We store the account you create and the screenshots you choose to save. We do not sell your data, we do not use it for advertising, we do not use it to train AI models, and we do not read your screenshots except when you ask us for support and give us permission. The Chrome extension sends us nothing at all unless you are signed in on a paid plan.
MarkerBack (“we”, “us”) operates markerback.com and the MarkerBack browser extension. For any privacy question, or to exercise any right below, contact us.
Account data. Your email address and a hashed password (we never store the password itself). We use it to sign you in, to send service email such as verification and password resets, and to tell you about changes to your plan.
Content you create. Screenshots you save, the drawings and notes you add, and the folder names you give them. We store these so your work is there when you come back, and on your instruction we render them into exports such as PDFs.
Billing data. Handled entirely by Stripe, our payment processor. Card numbers never reach our servers. We keep only your Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, your plan, and your billing interval, so we know what you are entitled to.
Usage counters. How many captures you have made in the current billing period, so we can apply your plan's allowance.
Technical logs. Standard server logs from our hosting provider, including IP address and request time, kept briefly for security and debugging. We also apply per-IP rate limiting to sign-in and sign-up to slow down brute-force attempts.
This is the part people most want to know about, so it gets its own section.
Without an account, or on the free plan, the extension sends us nothing. Captures are taken by your browser and written straight to your own downloads folder. Drawings happen on a canvas in your browser. No image, no page content and no URL leaves your computer. The only network request the extension makes is a check of your own sign-in status, so it knows which mode to run in.
On a paid plan, and only when you press capture, the extension uploads that single screenshot, and the address of the page it came from, to your own MarkerBack account so it can appear in the folder you chose.
The extension does not track your browsing. It does not read pages in the background, log the sites you visit, inject anything into pages you have not asked it to draw on, or collect analytics. It has no ability to see one user's captures from another user's browser.
Why it asks for the permissions it does:
Only the suppliers needed to run the service: our hosting and database provider, our file storage provider, Stripe for payments, and our transactional email provider. Each processes data on our instructions. We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We may disclose data if the law requires it.
Data is stored on servers operated by our hosting providers. We keep your account and content for as long as your account exists. Delete your account and we delete your account record, your workspace, your saved projects and your stored images. Backups and server logs age out on their own shortly afterwards. Images you have deleted are removed from storage by a daily cleanup job.
You can access, correct, export or delete your data at any time from your account settings, or by contacting us. If you are in the UK, EU or another region with equivalent law, you also have the right to object to or restrict processing, and to complain to your local data protection authority. We respond to requests within 30 days.
We set one essential cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising cookies and we do not run cross-site tracking.
MarkerBack is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
If we make a material change we will update the date at the top of this page and email account holders before it takes effect.
